How many porta potties does a construction crew need?

A construction crew of 20 or fewer workers needs at least 1 toilet under OSHA rules. Crews of 20 to 199 need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. We recommend 1 standard unit per 10 workers with weekly service, because a unit used by more people fills before the next visit.

Crew sizeOSHA minimum (Table D-1)Our recommendation
1–10 workers1 toilet1 standard unit, weekly service
11–20 workers1 toilet2 units, or 1 unit with 2 services a week
25 workers1 seat + 1 urinal3 units
60 workers2 seats + 2 urinals6 units + 2 hand wash stations

Worked example: a 25-person framing crew. OSHA's minimum is 1 seat and 1 urinal. Our count is 25 ÷ 10 = 2.5, rounded up to 3 units. The OSHA numbers come from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51, Table D-1. This is not legal advice; confirm counts with your safety officer or general contractor.

What does weekly job site service include?

Weekly job site service includes 4 steps: pumping the waste tank, washing and sanitizing the inside surfaces, adding fresh deodorizer to the tank, and restocking toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The service tech also checks the door latch and vent. Service runs on a set weekday so crews know when to expect it.

  • Extra visits: crews over 10 per unit, 6-day weeks or July–August heat usually need a second weekly visit.
  • Locked sites: text us the gate code or leave the gate open on service day. A locked gate means a missed service.
  • Full unit before service day? Call or text. We add a visit, usually the same or next business day.

Details are in porta potty servicing explained.

How is a construction porta potty billed?

A construction porta potty is billed every 28 days, not by the calendar month, and each cycle includes 4 weekly services. The first invoice adds a one-time delivery charge. The rental rolls over until you call for pickup, and billing stops at the cycle in which the unit leaves the site.

Short jobs of 1 to 7 days, like a roof tear-off, are priced at a short-term rate instead of a full 28-day cycle. Ask for that rate when you call. For current ranges, see the porta potty rental cost guide.

Where should the porta potty go on a job site?

A job site porta potty should sit on level ground within about 30 feet of where a service truck can park, at least 10 feet from trenches and material drops, and clear of overhead lines. On sloped North Alabama lots, a short gravel pad keeps the unit level and the truck out of mud.

  • Face the door away from the street and toward the work area.
  • Keep it out of the path of concrete trucks and lifts.
  • For lots without a street address, send a pin or nearby cross streets and a photo.
  • Stake or tie down units on open ridgetops before spring storms.

Can a job site porta potty arrive today?

A job site porta potty can arrive the same day when you call by 12 PM, Monday through Saturday, and a truck has room on its route. Gadsden-area sites usually get the unit that afternoon. Inspectors and general contractors often require a toilet before work starts, so same-day orders are common.

Questions about construction porta potty rental

Do I pay for a full month if the roof job only takes 3 days?

A 1- to 7-day job is priced at a short-term rate, not a 28-day cycle. Tell us the tear-off and cleanup dates and we will quote the short-term rate with delivery and pickup included.

Can you move the unit when we move to a new phase of the lot?

Moving a unit within the same site is usually done during a regular service visit. Text us the new spot and a photo before service day. Moving to a different address is quoted as a new delivery.

Do you put a lock on job site units?

Job site units can be fitted with a hasp so your superintendent can add a padlock after hours. Ask when you book, and leave a key or code for our service tech on service day.

What happens if the unit gets tipped over or damaged?

Call us right away so we can clean and replace it. Tipping from storms or normal use is handled by our crew. Damage from vandalism, fire or equipment strikes may be billed, as described in the rental terms.

Can you invoice my company and send a W-9?

Company invoices with your project name or PO number are standard. We can email a W-9 with the first invoice. Pay by card or ask about invoice terms for ongoing accounts.
